Spring Concert
2025

Upcoming Joint Concert with the Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra

We are thrilled to announce our upcoming collaboration with the Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra (pronounced ‘Slawit’!). Their last visit in 2014 was a truly special occasion, enjoyed by both players and audience members alike, and we are delighted to welcome them back to the Isle of Man.

This time, we will be performing an exciting and ambitious programme, featuring:
🎵 Chabrier’s España
🎵 Britten’s The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra
🎵 Mussorgsky’s Night on a Bare Mountain
🎵 Mahler’s Symphony No. 1
🎵 A work by Haydn Wood (born in Slaithwaite and raised on the Isle of Man)

With both orchestras combined, we will have over 100 musicians on stage—a truly magnificent sound!

This project represents a significant investment, and we are incredibly grateful for the generous financial support we have received:
💷 £2,000 from the M.S. Dickinson Trust
💷 £6,000 from the Isle of Man Arts Council’s Extraordinary Events Fund

These grants have been instrumental in covering the costs of travel and accommodation for the visiting musicians, as well as securing the Villa Marina for our rehearsals and concert.

Rehearsals are already underway under the expert direction of Graham, and preparations are progressing well. Graham will conduct the first half of the concert, while Ben Ellin, the conductor of the Slaithwaite Philharmonic, will lead the performance of Mahler’s First Symphony.

We look forward to keeping you updated and hope to see you at what promises to be a spectacular concert!
