Summer Concert of Classical Favourites

July 26.jpg

This year we are trying out the idea of performing our Summer Concert in the Villa Marina. We were lucky to find Sunday 5th July was available and jumped at the chance! Our other new idea is to work with a guest conductor. Graham Kirkland, who will be conducting most of this concert, suggested asking Stephen Threlfall who used to be head of music at Chethams Music School and vice-principal cellist in the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. Some years ago he tutored the Manx Youth Orchestra on a residential course. He was inspirational to the students and I’m sure IOMSO will find him inspiring too.

The programme for our July concert should prove very popular with both orchestra and audience: Rossini’s William Tell Overture, Grieg’s Piano Concerto with returning guest soloist Dominika Mak who won our hearts with her performance of the Shostakovich last November, three movements from Bizet’s L’Arlésienne Suite no.1 and Elgar’s Enigma Variations. What a feast of glorious music!

So please put the date in your diaries now so you don’t miss out on what promises to be a very special occasion. Look out for further details on our website and Facebook page. Tickets will be on sale from Monday 18th May.
